The various types of rescue stretchers on the market.

We all know what a stretcher is, but perhaps not everyone is aware of the various types of rescue stretchers on the market.

This article will give a brief overview of the 6 types of rescue stretchers commonly used in heights and confined spaces:

spinal plate;
basket stretcher;
extractor;
rollable stretcher;
Special mountain rescue stretcher;
Special stretcher for snow rescue.

Every company with rescue and recovery personnel should have a stretcher on hand in the event of an emergency in a confined space. The same applies to those working at heights.

So, let’s see what are the 6 types of rescue stretchers and what are their respective advantages. I hope it can help you choose the stretcher correctly.

1. Spinal plate
The Spinal Board is a stretcher designed for transporting back trauma victims who require immobilization as much as possible. The injured person should not stay on the spinal cord for more than 40-45 minutes or they may suffer other types of trauma. However, the injured person cannot be handled vertically with the spine board, and the injured must recover through the manhole or vent, which is cumbersome to operate. Spine boards cannot be dragged. There are various types of spine boards on the market, from very economical polyethylene models to more technologically advanced models in non-polluting materials, aluminum or carbon fiber.

2. Basket stretcher
Basket Rescue Stretcher is a very simple stretcher. The main body is a rigid cage frame (actually a “basket”). Put the casualty in without even taking the casualty off the spine board, fasten with simple straps, and move. Some basket stretchers can be towed and others can be hoisted with a winch.

3. Extractor
The extractor is one of the most advanced casualty transport systems. The casualty can be carried behind and moved outside. Extractors are good for short distances and some can be used with lifting winches.

4. Rollable stretcher
The rollable rescue stretcher, which originated in the military, consists of a “cloth” on which the wounded are placed, fully wrapped and able to fit through the narrowest of passages.

5. Special mountain rescue stretcher
Special mountain rescue stretchers are task-specific stretchers that are unique in their class.

6. Special stretcher for snow rescue
The back protection of the rack is made of a nylon shell for easy transport over rough terrain when it has to be dragged. Comes with a removable pad and handle for easy sliding on the slopes. Side handles allow for transport with multiple operators.
